ABSTRACT

Schizophrenia is a severe and persistent debilitating psychiatric disorder with a worldwide prevalence rate of about 1%. The illness encompasses a wide range of behavioral phenomena expressed to varying degrees in symptomatic patients.1 Patients usually experience a combination of positive (i.e. hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized speech and behavior), negative (i.e. affective flattening, avolition, and poverty of speech), and cognitive symptoms (deficits in memory, decision making, and problem solving).
