ABSTRACT

The use of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) for wrinkle improvement is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the United States. Among facial treatments, the glabellar complex remains the single most commonly treated site. As physicians have become more proficient at using botulinum toxin for cosmetic improvement, and as patients have seen remarkable improvements that botulinum toxin can afford, treatment of more than one area of the face is now common. Many patients have the entire upperthird of the face treated with BTX-A, that being the glabellar complex, periocular area, eyebrow area, and forehead. Treatment of multiple areas of the face has been shown to increase patient satisfaction and self-perception of age. This chapter will focus on the treatment of the glabellar complex, forehead, eyebrows, and the eyelids. Other chapters will address the periorbital area, mid-face, lower face, and neck.
