ABSTRACT

Biplane Configurations Biplane configurations have attributes that are of value in three circumstances.

1. Patients with renal insufficiency in whom it is desirable to minimize contrast agent dose. In such patients, if an operator is skilled and experienced at performing biplane coronary angiography, a biplane X-ray unit offers the potential for substantial contrast agent dose reduction. It is possible that, in future, 3-D rotational angiography may supercede this particular indication for biplane angiography.
