ABSTRACT

Inferior vena cava Leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare entity. In a 20-year report for the University of California at Los Angeles,56 14 patients were treated with attempted wide resection. As with other sites with visceral sarcoma, the ability to perform complete resection was the primary factor in determining outcome. Adjuvant radiation therapy in this small series appeared to improve median survival. However, this was not a randomized trial. Overall, seven patients have survived for 5 years, similar to the authors’ experience with resection of leiomyosarcomas of different origin.
