ABSTRACT
Introduction Diabetes mellitus is the commonest endocrine disorder in childhood and acute appendicitis is a common surgical emergency. The combination of the two may present a complex medical problem with potential for profound acidosis and severe dehydration. Management requires close liaison with paediatricians, anaesthetists and surgeons and may also necessitate paediatric intensive care support.
