ABSTRACT
This chapter gives a brief description of the mode of action and posi-
tion in management of those drugs most commonly used in the man-
agement of type 2 diabetes and its complications.
Mode of action: Insulin secretagogues. Sulphonylureas bind to the
sulphonylurea receptor (SUR) on the K-ATP channel in the β-cell membrane. Sulphonylurea binding closes the channel, causing depo-
larization and insulin release (see Fig 2).
