ABSTRACT

A patient undergoing planned hysterectomy often has associated adnexal pathology. The adnexa consists of the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, and the utero-ovarian ligaments. The hysterectomy may have been advised because of an adnexal mass and/or a uterine cause. Be that as it may, at a planned hysterectomy with adnexectomy, the contralateral ovary may need preservation or prophylactic removal. Such a hysterectomy as a rule is scheduled for laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) or via laparotomy depending on the institution and/or surgeon.
