ABSTRACT

Today, those surgeons favouring abdominal hysterectomy have become advocates of laparoscopic hysterectomy, mainly laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH), and in the process have realized the compelling need to learn vaginal hysterectomy (VH). Those who always preferred VH are performing hysterectomy via the vaginal route in larger numbers by widening the indications and reducing the contraindications through a liberal use of some of the newer perspectives, such as use of new surgical space, using total uterine volume and debulking procedures, and laparoscopic evaluation.
