ABSTRACT
Every woman who has to undergo a hysterectomy or any other major surgery, whatever the route or technique, needs careful and detailed preoperative assessment. This gives the patient and her gynaecologist considerable advantages. Complacency and overconfidence have no place in medicine and are very likely to result in mishap at some time or another.
