ABSTRACT

Symptoms of upper urinary tract dilatation during pregnancy Upper urinary tract dilatation during pregnancy is usually painless, asymptomatic and without renal damage.7,20-22 However, some pregnant women describe various symptoms, the most common (more than 80%), with or without urinary tract dilatation and with or without stone confirmation being flank pain (ref. 2 and authors’ own data). Many women also complain of dysuria, haematuria and/or fever due to urinary tract infection (pyelonephritis, cystitis). It may be very difficult to distinguish between those symptoms due to urological changes and those related to pregnancy; many of the presenting signs and symptoms may be masked by the pregnancy.
