ABSTRACT

Introduction Obstruction to the outlet of the bladder is one of the most frequent clinical scenarios that urological surgeons face. In the majority of cases, non-interventional therapy can be effective. However, there are many for whom the severity of symptoms is such that mechanical dis-obstruction of the prostatic urethra is essential. In addition are men who have developed acute or chronic urinary retention in whom attempts to remove the catheter have been unsuccessful or are undesirable.
