ABSTRACT

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body, performing a variety of physiological functions. In addition to its secretory and excretory functions responsible for the formation of bile, it is the main metabolic powerhouse of the body More than 500 metabolic functions occur in a single hepatocyte. Regulation of these processes takes place at organ level, cellular level, within organelles, and at molecular level. The gallbladder functions in close harmony with the liver. In this chapter, the most important processes are summarised.
