ABSTRACT

In the hand of the electrophysiologist, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) can be helpful in patients presenting with ventricular arrhythmias, syncope, or sudden cardiac death. The most common cause of cardiomyopathy and ventricular arrhythmias is ischemic heart disease or coronary artery disease, which is described in detail elsewhere in this text. This section focuses on patients presenting with ventricular tachycardia, syncope, or unexplained sudden cardiac death, in whom ischemia has been ruled out as a cause. Themost important entities to evaluate in this setting are hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC), and anomalous coronary arteries (typically in young persons).
