ABSTRACT

Dysuria is the sensation of pain on micturition and it can arise from irritation in the bladder or the urethra. It is a common symptom in children and can represent very mild disease such as irritation of the external genitalia, or serious infection of the kidney. The younger child is more likely to have trauma or irritation as the cause of dysuria whereas the older child is more likely to have an infectious reason for this symptom (see Table 1). Diagnosis as always depends on a good history and examination prior to specific investigation.
