ABSTRACT
The ultimate goal of in vitro fertilization (IVF) is the establishment of a viable pregnancy and the birth of a single healthy baby. In order to meet the pressures imposed by anxious patients and by individual centers to improve success rates, multiple embryos are transferred in the hopes that one will implant. This practice has lead to an increase in the incidence of higher order multiple pregnancies that present numerous complications to both the child and mother.
