ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION Uroflowmetry is a graphic depiction (curve) of urinary flow through the urethra. The urine flow curve is a velocity plot of voided urine against time. The urine stream is affected by voiding pressure and bladder outlet resistance. Therefore, uroflowmetry evaluates the interaction between urinary bladder contraction strength and bladder outlet resistance. It is a preliminary, noninvasive screening procedure for the investigation of patients with voiding dysfunction, for the assessment of progression of the disease, and for evaluation of the results of treatment. It is a reliable tool to quantify and graphically depict urinary flow. It can also be performed as part of a full urodynamics study.
