ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION The lower urinary tract is responsible for the storage and evacuation of urine. Storage should occur at low pressure to assure continence and protection of the kidneys, and evacuation should be voluntary. However, a variety of problems may arise that interfere with these two basic functions. Urodynamics is the dynamic study of the transport, storage, and evacuation of urine by the urinary tract. It comprises several tests that individually or collectively can be used to gain information about lower urinary tract function. It can be an invaluable tool in the evaluation of urinary storage and voiding dysfunction. When several parameters are measured simultaneously, we refer to the collective test as multichannel urodynamics.
