ABSTRACT

Nurses all over the world make a unique and invaluable contribution to the successful running of health care programs aimed at controlling diseases such as tuberculosis (TB). One of the significant challenges faced by nurses on a daily basis is how to organize effective patient care within the framework of DOTS (1), the strategy recommended by the World Health Organization and widely accepted as the gold standard for tuberculosis control. This chapter will explore the role nurses play in managing patients and patient care in line with the five components of the DOTS strategy (Table 1).
