ABSTRACT
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) encompasses therapies that are not traditionally taught in medical schools or employed in conventional Western medical practice. A therapy is complementary when used in addition to, or in conjunction with, conventional drugs or treatments, whereas an alternative therapy is used in place of conventional medical therapy. Many CAM therapies originate in diverse cultural healing practices dating back hundreds or thousands of years.
