ABSTRACT

One of the simplest secrets of a surgeon is to keep a skin scar ‘‘hidden.’’ Placing the incision line in a natural skin crease, wrinkle, or laugh line may do this. In younger patients, who are relatively wrinkle free and have not suffered the ravages of actinic damage, planning of incisions becomes very critical. Awareness of the normal lines of tension and Langer’s lines is essential to establish scars that are imperceptible to the casual observer.
