ABSTRACT

The combination of an initial subdermal tumescent anesthetic infiltration (1-5) followed by surface epidermal and intradermal infiltration with a standard anesthetic is a new and expanding concept that has evolved from earlier experiences combining tumescent anesthesia with blunt dissection techniques (6-7). The evolution of a new delivery system utilizing blunt, multiport infiltrators, varying between 1.7 and 3.0 mm in diameter and 1535 cm in length is now widely applicable for anesthetic delivery in liposuction (8,9), dermabrasion (10,11), liquid nitrogen cryopeeling, rhytidectomy, hair transplantation, split-thickness graft harvesting (12), sublesional hydrodissection with flap elevation (13) phlebectomy (14), and infiltration of psoriatic plaques (15).
