ABSTRACT

For many patients 65 years of age or older, polypharmacotherapy regimens are more the rule than the exception. It is essential for physicians to consider existing therapeutics and comorbid diseases and to coordinate therapy. Lack of attention to polypharmacy in elderly patients may lead to serious side effects, including cardiac arrhythmias, memory loss, lethargy, ambulation instability, blurred or impaired vision, tinnitus, and possibly even fatal adverse events.
