ABSTRACT

Humeral shaft fractures are classified according to location, extent of comminution, presence or absence of intra-articular extension, and associated injuries. When simple extra-articular fractures of the humeral shaft are present without associated injuries, nonoperative treatment is appropriate. However, when surgical treatment of humeral shaft fractures is required, there are many pearls and pitfalls that are important to review. The present chapter will focus on the surgical approaches to the humeral shaft and outline the authors’ preferences for the treatment of various fractures.
