ABSTRACT

The goal of this chapter is to assist clinicians in addressing common and often clinically significant ethical issues they encounter in the care of persons with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The general ethical framework to organize this chapter is derived from a set of principles of bioethics: respect for autonomy (granting a competent person freedom of choice), beneficence and non-maleficence (maximizing the good and minimizing harm) and justice (treating equal people equally).
