ABSTRACT

Dementia is the most common neurological disease in the elderly. From studies based on large populations it is estimated that 2.5 cases of dementia develop per 1000 persons/year among 65-year-olds; by 90 years of age the number of new cases increases to 85.6 cases per 1000. Alzheimer’s disease (AD), followed by vascular dementia (VaD) are the most common subtypes of dementia.1
