Transvaginal sonography can clearly image the normally developing skeleton in the first trimester. At eight weeks’ menstrual age, the upper and lower limbs are first visualized (Fig. 3). It is possible to examine the digits of the hands and feet at 12 weeks’ menstrual age (Fig. 4) (8).
