Most fetal weight gain occurs in the third trimester, and early fetal growth does not appear to be influenced by diabetic control. Patients with poorly controlled diabetes, who lack any vasculopathy, however, have been in longitudinal studies to be the ideal candidates for having macrosomic infants (8).
