ABSTRACT

Urinary incontinence is a common and underreported problem affecting women of all ages. It is defined by the International Continence Society as “the complaint of any involuntary leakage of urine that is objectively demonstrable and is a social and hygienic problem” (1). The annual direct cost of treating urinary incontinence in the United States in 2000 was estimated to be 19.5 billion dollars (2).
