ABSTRACT

Sexual dysfunctions manifest themselves as impairments in the ability to achieve physical and sexual intimacy with another human being. As such, these impairments can be incredibly harmful to an individual’s quality of life. Historically, society has targeted sexual prowess as the epitome of masculinity. Men suffering from sex dysfunctions must not only manage the physical problem but also struggle to maintain a favorable sexual and social identity. The delivery of effective treatments for sexual dysfunction can mitigate this potentially deleterious problem. However, effective treatments can only result from valid and expounding theories of etiology and psychometrically sound assessment instruments that do not currently exist in the area of sex dysfunction. It is essential that treatment providers have scholarly resources where information on current, empirically validated assessments and treatments available for sexual dysfunctions can be found. Although there are a great number of books, journals, and resources allocated to the subject of sexual functioning, they fail to empirically reveal any clear and valuable pathways of understanding.
