ABSTRACT
The ability to obtain fetal tissue has been a major advance in the field of prenatal diagnosis. While most invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures obtain either amniocytes or chorionic villi, certain diagnoses require sampling of other fetal tissues. This chapter will review currently available invasive prenatal diagnostic techniques, emphasizing the technical aspects of the sampling procedures and the associated risks.
