ABSTRACT
The simple relationship, volume ¼ mass/concentration, can be used to assess a fluid volume by the dilution principle. A known amount of tracer is diluted and mixed well in a solvent, and the concentration of tracer is determined from a representative sample taken from the fluid. Endogenous compounds can be used as tracers, but the total measurement error is then increased by the measurement error of the baseline concentration (Fig. 1).
