ABSTRACT
Hospital-acquired or nosocomial pneumonia is the second most common nosocomial infection in the United States and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality (1). Conservative analyses estimate the cost related to increased length of hospital stay and resource utilization to over $1.5 billion annually (2).
