ABSTRACT

Crohn’s disease is a nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease of the gastrointestinal tract. Reviewing the proceedings of the Pathological Society of London from 1850 through 1899, Fielding (1) found 31 cases with features of Crohn’s disease and 25 cases of possible Crohn’s disease. It is of interest that the great majority of cases involved the large bowel. Originally the diseases were diagnosed as obstruction, stricture, and ulcerative colitis.
