ABSTRACT

Surgery of the anorectum a d the colorectum is prone to the dev lopment of complications. Not only is the colon a source of infection, but also improper operative technique can easily cause ischemia, which may result in a leak or a stricture. Operation changes both the anatomy and the physiolog of the large bowel. Knowledg of the complications of ach procedure is essential, particularly the causes, methods of management, and means of prevention. This chapter is not intended to cover all the complications of anorectal and colorectal operations but to highlight the complications commonly seen or the complications that are uncommon but important ones.
