ABSTRACT

Biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle (PFM) disorders was first introduced in 1974 when Engel et al. (1) successfully treated patients with fecal incontinence (FI). In 1985, Bleijenberg and Kuijpers (2) published the first report of utilizing biofeedback for patients with constipation caused by paradoxical contractions of PFM during attempted. Reports describing biofeedback for treating patients with rectal pain have only been published in the last few years.
