ABSTRACT
Hemorrhoidal disease has plagued mankind since ancient times. It is one of the few diseases with a patron saint; St. Fiacre was accorded this honor in the time of Galen (1). Although a common disorder, this malady is still frequently misunderstood and inappropriately treated.
