ABSTRACT

William Osler’s principle that it is more helpful to approach the person who has the disease than the disease the person has is well taken in regard to headache (1). As noted by Dr. Fred Sheftell, ‘‘One can take a logical approach to the diagnosis and treatment of headache and still miss the boat . . .All diagnosis and treatment takes place in the atmosphere of a relationship between the physician and patient. It is the quality of that atmosphere which often constitutes the difference between treatment success and failure. A nonbiased and nonjudgmental approach should be the template upon which diagnosis and treatment is built’’ (1).
