ABSTRACT

While the treatment of migraine is commonly delivered in an outpatient environment, there are patients who are refractive to standard pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment. Many of them can be treated with more aggressive modalities of treatment. Some of these therapies are described in this chapter, which is divided into two subsections. First we describe the inpatient management of migraine. Most of the strategies described can also be used, and often are, for the treatment of chronic daily headaches. We then describe some invasive treatment strategies for migraine and the chronic daily headaches (some of which require hospitalization, while others can be used in the outpatient setting).
