ABSTRACT

Over the past few years, increasing evidence has linked the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) to Parkinson’s disease (PD) and related disorders. In particular, it has been posited that dysfunction of this system may underlie certain forms of PD (1). UPS dysfunction may also be involved in other neurodegenerative diseases. Whether this involvement is primary and plays a role in disease pathogenesis is a subject of debate (see 2). Primarily because of the existence of genetic data linking PD to the UPS, evidence for the involvement of this system is strongest for this particular neurodegenerative condition.
