ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The human neck comprises the area between the lower margin of the mandible and the upper surface of the manubrium of the sternum. A great number of vital structures are compressed within this relatively small area, making it a region of vulnerability. Understanding the uniquely complex anatomy of this region is critical to any surgeon or physician involved with tumor diagnosis and management. Additionally, a renewed interest in neck anatomy has accompanied the recent development of esthetic procedures for this area. It is important to understand not only surface anatomy but also the complicated interrelationship and clinical relevance of what lies below.
