ABSTRACT

Genetic Predisposition Childhood RLS most likely develops when genetic predisposition interacts with environmental factors that have yet to be fully identified. Winkelmann et al. carried

out complex segregation analysis on 238 (predominantly adult) patients with RLS and 537 relatives (9). They found that patients with an age of onset of symptoms below 30 years most likely had single gene, autosomal dominant transmission with a multifactorial component. The lower end of the age range in their study population was 12 years. In those with onset after the age of 30 years, however, no genetic predisposition could be established.
