ABSTRACT

Contact dermatitis to ingredients of cosmetics is not uncommon. In one report, 1% to 3% of the population is allergic to a cosmetic or cosmetic ingredient (1). Most adverse reactions are irritant in nature, but allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and contact urticaria are not uncommon. There have also been reports of transient stinging and smarting reactions to cosmetic products. Many adverse reactions to cosmetics are not reported to the manufacturers because consumers simply change to another brand.
