ABSTRACT

A small but not insignificant proportion of patients with sensory-type bladder disordersotherwise known as painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis (PBS/IC) and chronic pelvic pain-will reach a point in their treatments where pharmacological therapy no longer offers adequate relief from pain. It is in some of these patients that we use various surgical methods to attempt to treat their symptoms. However, surgical intervention should be reserved to as a last resort, when all conservative measures have failed.
