ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is an endocrine disorder resulting primarily from inadequate

insulin release (Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus) or insulin insensi-

tivity coupled with inadequate compensatory insulin release (Type 2 non-insulin

dependent diabetes mellitus). Though strict glycemic control is desirable to

prevent diabetes complications, this is not always achievable. Thus, adjuvant

therapies are needed to help in preventing or delaying the onset of diabetic

complications.
