ABSTRACT

Sweden (2). The procedure was an important part of the

Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) study (3). However, prob-

lems including erosion, obstruction, inadequate weight

loss, and maladaptive eating behaviors precluded wide-

spread acceptance of the approach. In particular, with lack

of adjustability, the band was either too tight and the

patient had copious vomiting and maladaptive eating, or it

was too loose, resulting in disappointing weight loss.

Something better was needed.
