ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Rigorous and meticulous scientific evaluations are required before the introduction of a vaccine into public health practice. In this chapter, we provide an overview of several methodological considerations that are relevant to field evaluations of the clinical protection conferred by vaccine candidates that have proved suitably safe and immunogenic in earlier animal and human studies.
