ABSTRACT

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the number one cause of death in elderly patients and

also the major cause of hospitalization and rehospitalizations in this age group. Clinically,

CAD manifests as both acute and chronic ischemic syndromes, and it is important that the

practicing physician have an understanding of the pathophysiology of these syndromes, as

well as confidence in management of these in elderly patients. This chapter will discuss

the evaluation and management of elderly patients who demonstrate two of these

ischemic syndromes-stable and unstable angina.
