ABSTRACT
Infective endocarditis (IE) is a disease with variable manifestations. In the pre-antibiotic
era, endocarditis predominately occurred in the third and fourth decades of life (1), but
numerous publications have now provided an increasing awareness of the growing
proportion of older individuals afflicted with this disease.
