ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Microneedles have recently entered the medical field as a promising innovation to drug delivery. These are small projections, less than a millimeter in length, that penetrate the stratum corneum and epidermis. By penetrating these skin layers they produce a conduit for drugs to bypass the defense mechanisms of the skin. This new technology has the capability to both enhance the performance of transdermal patches and provide an alternative transdermal delivery method.
