ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION The rising prevalence of overweight and obesity has brought about an epidemic of several pathologic conditions affecting the gastrointestinal and hepatic systems. From gastroesophageal refl ux disease (GERD) to several cancers of the gut, just about every organ in the alimentary tract is affected by an increase in visceral adiposity.
